Ellen Greer
Curator of Design
As the N.C. Zoo's Curator of Design, Ellen Greer supervises the department which includes graphics and exhibit design, production and fabrication. She is also involved in the planning, scheduling, budget development and maintenance of all exhibits as well as other facilities at the Park. She also oversees the development and implementation of the Zoo’s arts programs.
Ellen received her degree in art education from East Carolina University and UNC-Chapel Hill. She taught art at the high school and community college level for 11 years before joining the Zoo staff in 1983 as an exhibit designer and fabricator. She was named Curator of Design in 1990.
The Design Section’s goals include excellence in the design and implementation of the Zoo's natural habitat animal exhibits, ensuring that the Zoo's education and conservation messages are presented in the most effective ways, maintaining high visual standards throughout the Park and assuring a positive visitor experience.
Ellen is a practicing artist and active in the local art community. She is a member of the Randolph Arts Guild, the Center for Visual Artists – Greensboro and the Visitor Studies Association.
