Western Lowland Gorilla
The Western lowland gorilla weighs about 400 pounds. Gorillas are the largest of the living primates. This docile great ape inhabits tropical African forests rich in low-growing vegetation. Gorilla troops in the wild consist of at least one silverback male, mature females and several juveniles. Troops are well-defined and dominance fights are rare. Silverbacks display and charge to chase away intruders. This intimidating display is usually a bluff, and the gorilla typically veers in another direction before reaching their target.
