The Zoo’s animals come from places far beyond North Carolina. From the savannas of tropical Africa to the tundra of arctic Canada, wild animals face numerous threats from pollution, overuse of natural resources and human caused habitat loss. In the mid 1990’s, the North Carolina Zoo began a series of field programs in remote corners of the planet. Our field projects employ innovative approaches to address environmental challenges.
