Michael Beadle is an award-winning poet, teaching artist and author living in Canton, NC. He is the author of two poetry collections, a poetry CD, and two books on historic photographs. His poems have been published in journals and anthologies such as The New Southerner, Smoky Mountain Review, Kakalak and The Sound of Poets Cooking. Since 1998, he has been performing original, contemporary and classical poetry for audiences of all ages in schools, festivals, libraries, churches, restaurants and a variety of public venues. As a touring writer-in-residence, he teaches creative writing workshops and residencies for students and teachers throughout North Carolina.
A resident of Haywood County in western North Carolina, Michael is the co-author of a comprehensive bicentennial book, Haywood County: Portrait of a Mountain Community, which won the 2010 President's Award from the NC Society of Historians. He is also a founding member and coordinator for the Haywood Snapshot Project, which seeks to gather, research and exhibit historic photos of Haywood County in public spaces. A journalist for 15 years, Michael published more than 1,500 articles in newspapers and magazines across North Carolina, and his feature stories garnered several NC Press Association awards.
