POETRY WORKSHOPS
POETRY OF CONSERVATION
The "Poetry of Conservation," a partnership between the NC Zoo, the Randolph Public Library and the Randolph Arts Guild, will bring three poets to the Zoo in June, July and September of this year for week long residencies - Pat Riviere-Seel, Bill Griffin and Michael Beadle. These are well known poets, all of whom live and work in North Carolina. The poets will conduct poetry workshops and do readings, at the Zoo, the Library in Asheboro and the Arts Guild.
The program is designed to deepen the Zoo visitor's appreciation of nature through poetry. Poetry draws attention to the beauty and fragility of the natural world and can be "the gateway for voices from both near and far that have valued wildlife and conservation during the course of human history." Poems selected across time and continents will appeal to a wide audience base and demonstrate the depth and breadth of the human relationship with the physical world. Poetry workshop opportunities and readings are available for both youth and adults.
