Black Bear

The smallest of the three bears in North America, they have the widest range of all, with reports from all states but Hawaii.  Although most often all black with a tan muzzle, they can also be white, cinnamon, and even a bluish color.  Black bears are excellent climbers and very adaptable, even ranging into cities sometimes.

Cynthia Mitchell, Story, Recording & Book
Made possible through the N.C. Zoo’s Visiting Artist Program

Travel to the ocean and the shores of Ocracoke Island. There Hallie and her father meet up with three singing sandpipers and a very unexpected visitor. Taking our cue from Hallie - there’s no telling what wonders, mysteries and surprises we can meet up with when we pay attention to the world around us!
