North Carolina Zoo Temporary/Seasonal Positions

The North Carolina Zoo is seeking enthusiastic and energetic candidates interested in joining our seasonal employment team. The Zoo’s peak operating season is March – October each year and we offer an array of job opportunities. If you love people, animals, interested in conserving a piece of the world for generations to come and want to work at our world class zoo, this is the place for you! The NC Zoo welcomes more than 750,000 guests each year and we want to ensure their zoo experience is positive and memorable.

We offer the following seasonal opportunities (excluding SSA Food Services and NC Zoo Society opportunities).  Candidates must be able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Admissions – Cashiers
High level of customer services skills
Cashier experience preferably POS experience
Good math skills
Flexible work schedule 7 days a week
15-25 hours per week (8:30 – 3:00)($7.50/hr)

Special Attractions
High level of customer service skills
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Ability to move freely around the Carousel for cleaning and inspection
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to climb stairs on a frequent basis (SimEx)
Ability to work on elevated surfaces on a frequent basis(Air Hike)
Excellent public speaking and interaction skills (Air Hike)
Must be 18 years old or older
Flexible work schedule 7 days a week
30 – 35 hours per week (9:30 – 5:30)($7.50 - $9.00/hr)

Transportation
High level of customer service skills
High level of energy
Ability to drive a multi passenger bus and/or multi-car tram
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Ability to climb up and down from vehicle on a frequent basis
Ability to life 30 lbs on a frequent basis (loading and unloading strollers, wheelchairs and ECV’s)
Excellent communication skills for dealing with a diverse guest audience
High tolerance for stress
High level of attention to detail
Must be 18 years old or older with a valid North Carolina driver’s license
Must pass pre-employment drug screen and subject to random drug testing
Flexible work schedule, 7 days a week
30-35 hours per week (8:30 – 6:00)($8/hr)

Environmental Services
High level of customer service skills
High level of energy
Must be able to work with chemicals and cleaning agents
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk, bend and stoop on a frequent basis over uneven terrain
Ability to lift 30 lbs frequently
Must have valid North Carolina driver’s license
Weekdays only 40 hours per week (7:00 – 4:00)
Weekends only 20 hours per week (6:30 – 5:30)
($7.50/hr)

Security/Park Ranger
High level of customer service skills
High level of energy
Good attention to detail
Good listening skills
Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk over uneven terrain
Prefer skill in basic First Aid
Ability to lift 30 lbs
Valid North Carolina driver’s license
Approximately 30 hours per week ($8.25/hr)

Habitat Interpreters
High level of customer service skills
Enthusiastic speaking /presentation skills
Enjoy working with small children
Ability to adjust presentations to diverse audiences
Experience giving formal and informal educational talks
Ability to use biofacts and live animals for communicating message
Knowledge and experience in Biology, Zoology or Ecology
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Must be 18 year old or older
24-28 hours per week ($8.50/hr)
