The Poetry of Conservation

Poetry helps align what we learn about the natural world and how we feel about it - to deepen our understanding of nature by drawing attention to its beauty, diversity and fragility. The hope is that by joining emotion with rational analysis, a more enduring commitment to conservation will result.

 Earth Day by Jane Yolen

2012 Poets in Residence

The work of the three North Carolina poets chosen for this program reflects a deep respect for nature. While at the Zoo the poets led workshops, had readings, wrote poetry and selected a variety of nature based poems to be installed throughout the Zoo. The Art at the Park Guide includes a listing and map of locations of the 30 pieces of poetry in the Park.
