Asheboro, N.C. – March 9, 2020 - The North Carolina Zoo is excited to announce another southern white rhino was born at the Zoo on Feb. 24, 2020—the second rhino birth so far this year. The female calf was born to mother Linda and father, Stormy. The Zoo will announce details of naming the new calf at a later time.

  Asheboro, N.C. – March 5, 2020 - The North Carolina Zoo is excited to announce the name of the female southern white rhino calf born at the Zoo on Sunday, Jan. 5. She was born to mother Kit and father Stormy. “Mguu” was the name chosen by Zach Neal, a Zoo employee, from a list of names created by the rhino keepers. The Zoo invited employees to enter a free drawing to choose the name and Zach was the lucky winner. Zach and his family also won a behind the scenes tour with Mguu and the rest of the rhino herd.      

North Carolina Zoo Announces Birth of Southern White Rhino This is the third birth in just under two years at the world’s largest natural habitat zoo Asheboro, N.C. – Jan. 9, 2020 - The North Carolina Zoo is excited to announce the birth of a third southern white rhino in just under two years. The female calf was born on Sunday, Jan. 5,  to mother Kit and father Stormy. The calf weighed approximately 100 pounds and will be named at a later time.  

North Carolina Zoo Announces Record Attendance for Calendar Year 2019 Asheboro, Jan 3. 2020 -The North Carolina Zoo is excited to announce record attendance for the year 2019. The world’s largest natural habitat zoo saw 917,309 visitors, or 85,000 more compared to 2018.

Asheboro, N.C. - Nov. 14, 2019 North Carolina Zoo Announces Chimpanzee Birth – Second Birth this Year.  This is the fifth chimp born at the North Carolina Zoo since 2010 and the second in 2019

Asheboro, N.C. – Nov. 13, 2019 - Holly, a black bear who lived at the North Carolina Zoo for 24 years, was humanely euthanized on Wed., Nov. 6, 2019.   

ASHEBORO, N.C. – Sept. 19, 2019 -  Yepani, a grizzly bear who has lived at the North Carolina Zoo for 25 years and was known for his gentle and patient personality, died Wednesday, Sept. 18.

ASHEBORO, N.C. – Aug. 27, 2019 The North Carolina Zoo just completed its fourth successful season of “head-starting” an army (or group) of one of North Carolina’s rarest amphibians, the Carolina gopher frogs in partnership with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission (NCWRC).
