A visit to the North Carolina Zoo now includes an option to virtually go on safari in Africa. A new virtual reality (VR) theater features 10 seats where guests put on VR headsets for a five-minute virtual tour through the diverse plains of Africa. Guests get “nose-to-nose” with some of the continent’s most iconic animals, like elephants, rhinos and giraffes. This new experience is designed to provide a dynamic and unique way to connect the Zoo’s guests to nature using the latest in technology.
Director of Conservation, Education and Science Dr. Rich Bergl said, “The team at the North Carolina Zoo is excited to offer our guests Expedition AFRICA—A Virtual Reality Experience. Participants on this virtual safari will see expansive 360 degree views of African wildlife in its natural habitat while learning about these species and the Zoo’s work to save them from extinction. It’s a great way to have an incredible, fun experience, while also gaining a better understanding of some of Africa’s most amazing animals.”
This new attraction officially opens Monday, May 20 and is located in Junction Plaza. The VR experience is a $3 additional fee per person or guests may use a FUN ticket for entry. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through October 31. For more information, visit NCZoo.org/Attractions.
