Tips for Little Ones at the Zoo

The North Carolina Zoo is a wonderful place for a family outing full of fun, adventure, and educational experiences.  We understand that planning to care for your little ones while you are here can be a bear!  Here are some tips and information that can help you prepare for your day.

Diaper Changing Stations

Diaper changing stations are located in all restrooms–men's and women's.

Family Restrooms

Family restrooms are located at the Solar Pointe picnic area and at the restrooms near the Elephant habitats in Africa.

Guests in need of a private changing area for larger children or adults can be accommodated at our Guest Services offices located at the North America or Africa entrances.

Nursing Mothers

We welcome all bottle feeding and breastfeeding mothers and encourage you to do so where you feel most comfortable.

Private nursing areas are available upon request at the Guest Services offices at the North America and Africa entrances.

There is also a private nursing pod located in the center of the Zoo inside the Junction Springs Cafe'.  Access to this pod can be requested by downloading the Mamava App.

Baby Supplies

Guests are encouraged to bring baby supplies such as diapers, formula and strollers. However, you can rent double strollers at the gift shops located at the North America and Africa entrances. Select gift shops also carry diaper changing kits for purchase ($4.99 plus tax).

Strollers

The Zoo does have double strollers for rent on a first come, first served basis.  We encourage guests to bring their own strollers because we do not take reservations.   Please note that tricycle style strollers are only allowed into the Zoo if the child rider does not have any control to steer or pedal the vehicle.
