Stride for Survival
The North Carolina Zoo is excited to host the 2025 American Red Wolf SAFE Program meeting. This annual meeting will bring together red wolf experts from around the country to share information about red wolf care, research, and conservation. The meeting will include presentations from partners in the red wolf conservation community that cover topics relevant for both the in situ and ex situ populations. The meeting will also be used to develop the 2025 breeding and transfer plan for the ex situ population. The meeting will also include an evening icebreaker welcome event, special tours of the North Carolina Zoo, and a closing banquet.

Late Registration will close on July 1st. Be aware if you register after June 1st, you will not receive a t-shirt and coffee tumbler.

Airports
Three airports serve the Asheboro, NC area.
- Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO; Greensboro, NC)
- 40 mins to Asheboro, NC
- Leave PTI Airport on 1-73 South, follow signs for I-73 South/Asheboro until reaching Asheboro
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)
- 1 hour and 30 mins to Asheboro, NC
- Get on US-64 W from Aviation Pkwy, Morrisville Carpenter RD and NC-1613/Davis Dr., follow US-64 W until reaching Asheboro
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport) CLT)
- 1 hour and 30 mins to Asheboro, NC
- Get on I-85 N, follow I-85 N until exit 96, take exit 96 and follow US-64 E until reaching Asheboro

Note: There are several hotels near the Zoo, but the shuttle provided by the Zoo will only depart from the Hampton Inn. All the hotels listed are within a short walking distance of the Hampton Inn and the shuttle stop. Attendees staying at hotels outside of this walking distance will need to arrange their own transportation to the meeting.
Transportation
The Zoo will provide a shuttle between the Hampton Inn and the meeting. The shuttle will leave from the Hampton Inn, but all of the listed hotels are within short walking distance. Shuttle service will leave the Hampton Inn at 7:45AM and return to at the conclusion of the meeting each day.
Weather
- Expect hot and muggy conditions. Average high temperatures in the upper 80’s/low 90’s with high humidity levels result in feels like temperatures regularly reaching 100.
- Quick, strong storms are common throughout the summer months in North Carolina resulting in short periods of heavy rain and lightning.
- It may be cold in the meeting room!
Post-conference trip
- Day trip to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge to receive tour of release site from USFW.
- 4 hour drive to Manteo, NC, tour of facilities and points of interest, 4 hour drive back to Asheboro, NC.
- Limit 20 people.
